Frequently Asked Questions
Help Centre & FAQ's
We’ve tried to provide as much information as possible for prospective parents, including our wide range of services and some of our testimonials. If you’d like to know anything else, check out our frequently asked questions or simply give us a call.
We’ll be happy to give you the answers you need.
WHAT DO I NEED TO PACK FOR MY CHILD?
Breakfast is included Before School, and afternoon tea is included After School, so you do not need to pack food for your child if participating in these programs. If joining us for Vacation Care, unless stated otherwise, your child will need to bring a packed lunch.
In addition, be sure to always have a drink bottle and a sun-smart hat packed for your child.
WHAT ACTIVITIES DO OSHC CHILDREN ENGAGE IN?
Our goal is to endorse everyday life skills along with promoting abilities, nurturing individuality and confidence through creative arts, nutrition and sustainability, outdoor education, STEM education, progressive programs and spontaneous activities. You'll find your child doing everything from playing in the playground and exploring the pine forest to cooking in the kitchen, dancing on the grass and completing crafts in the hall. We also actively pursue additional opportunities and initiatives that are responsive to the wants, needs and growth of the children. For example, we may stage a Bake Sale selling treats cooked by the children, could perhaps invite local organisations and emergency service personnel to present to the children, or organise community excursions for our senior students. At OSHC, no two days are ever the same!
CAN MY CHILD DO THEIR HOMEWORK OR INDEPENDENT ACTIVITY?
Absolutely! Students often collectively complete their homework together after school, meaning family time can be maximised once at home together. Our educators will also provide homework support for all children. We also actively encourage children to engage in the particular activities they enjoy best, whilst simultaneously encouraging socialisation and communal enjoyment of group activities wherever possible.
HOW DO CHILDREN TRANSITION FROM CLASS TO OSHC?
Before School Care – Prep and Year 1 children will be escorted to their classrooms by our educators for the start of the school day.
After School Care – Prep and Year 1 children will be collected from their classrooms by our educators and escorted to the hall.
Children in Years 2–6 will leave the OSHC service and walk themselves directly to their classroom for the start of the school day and walk themselves directly to the hall at the end of the school day.
CAN I ACCESS THE CHILD CARE SUBSIDY?
Buderim OSHC is an approved child care service provider for the Australian Government’s child care subsidy. This means your family may be able to access financial assistance reducing your out of pocket expense. The level of support your family receives depends on a number of factors, including your family’s combined income, the child care fees you are charged and the number of hours you and your partner work, train or volunteer in a fortnight. To access the subsidy you will need to complete an assessment through Centrelink. To find out what support you are eligible for and to complete an assessment, visit this website.
WHAT IF MY CHILD REQUIRES MEDICATION WHILE AT OSHC?
You child's medication can be given to an educator, who will administer the medication and ensure the proper storage. An educator will require a completed medication form and action plan (if applicable) before the commencement of care.
